These will include traditional mobile and broadband connections
The core is where the network’s most critical controls are located and the most
sensitive information is stored, while the periphery includes masts, antennas
and other passive equipment. (Photo: AP) Britain’s plan to allow Chinese telecom
giant Huawei Technologies a restricted role in its next-generation mobile
networks is part of a heated international debate over the security risks
so-called 5G technology presents.
This makes the consequences of the networks
failing or being deliberately sabotaged in a cyber attack significantly more
serious."Allowing Huawei into the UK’s 5G infrastructure would cause allies to
doubt our ability to keep data secure and erode the trust essential to Five Eyes
cooperation,†said Tom Tugendhat, the chairman of Britain’s Foreign Affairs
Committee. But that dramatically increases the security risk, US officials say,
because of the increasingly central role that telecommunications will play in
our lives and the expected dramatic increase in connected devices in the
network. Industry association GSMA forecasts the number of internet-enabled
devices will triple to 25 billion by 2025.Britain plans to allow Huawei access
to non-core parts of fifth-generation, or 5G, networks on a restricted basis and
block it from all so-called core parts, sources told Reuters.
Some British
lawmakers agree.The larger the
China Engine component
tensioners Factory network, the more opportunities there are for hackers to
attack, meaning there is an increasingly complex system with more parts that
need protecting."The definition of core and non-core is a very difficult one
with 5G,†he added. The Five Eyes alliance is an intelligence-sharing group that
comprises the United States, Canada, Britain, Australia and New Zealand."So if a
5G network fails, there would be significant ramifications for all parts of
society,†Strayer said. This will provide more reliable high-speed
connections.
These will include traditional mobile and broadband connections, but
also internet-enabled devices from dishwashers through to advanced medical
equipment. The core is where the network’s most critical controls are located and
the most sensitive information is stored.5G promises super-fast connections
which tech evangelists say will transform the way we live our lives, enabling
everything from self-driving cars to remote surgery and automated
manufacturing."5G will really start touching all parts of our lives because it
will be the underlying infrastructure for so much of the critical services that
are provided to the public,†said Robert Strayer, the US State Department’s lead
cyber policy diplomat. As 5G becomes embedded in everything from hospitals to
transport systems and power plants it will rapidly become a part of each
country’s critical national infrastructure.
But it also means engineers will no
longer be able to clearly ring-fence the most sensitive parts of the system, US
officials say. With much faster data speeds, experts predict there will be
billions of connected devices. One of the biggest changes between 4G and 5G is
the ability to take the advanced computing power usually kept in the protected
"core†of a network and distribute it to other parts of the system.
The move
comes despite calls from Britain’s close ally, the United States, for countries
to ban Huawei altogether from 5G networks because of concerns that its equipment
could be used by Beijing for spying or sabotage. 5G promises super-fast
connections which tech evangelists say will transform the way we live our lives

After the

placed in taxis and auto rickshaws. At the time, the Centre had asked all the
states to send their proposals for improving the safety of women travelling by
public or semi-public transport, including taxis and auto rickshaws.Talking
about the plan, Divakar Raote, the transport minister, said, "We promised that
we would be installing GPS in auto rickshaws and taxis so we will do

things take time.

technology should be such that when a woman is in either of these vehicles and
feels threatened, she can message a particular number and an alarm will be
raised with the RTO, traffic police and city police, which is why the process
will take time,†said Raote. The state government is yet to figure out the cost

We have much that we want to achieve
We have much that we want to achieve and I am confident that we will unlock
Sharp's true potential and together reach great heights," he said in a joint
statement. "For Sharp, this is the first step toward normalisation and it will
make the company a buy for investors again," said Hideki Yasuda, an analyst at
Ace

Hon Hai put the
brakes on the takeover in February, soon after it was first announced, to review
new information from Sharp believed to relate to the company's sizeable
liabilities.Sharp is still a leader in LCD technology and remains one of Japan's
best-known corporate brands overseas despite its bleeding balance sheet. The
joint statement, issued at a news conference in Taipei, described the takeover
as an attempt to revive Sharp's flagging fortunes and called it a "historic
strategic alliance".
The two firms have worked together on large-screen
technology, including for televisions, and jointly operate a liquid crystal

committed to restoring profitability and strengthening operations to once again
make Sharp a leader in the global electronics arena and a world-class company
with a positive outlook," it said.. The deal is set to be the fourth largest
overseas investment by a Taiwanese company, the commission reported. The takeover
must still be approved by Taiwan's Investment Commission, which said it would

The captain has accepted it
The captain has accepted it, acknowledged the mistake, top management has
admitted, this is not a handiwork of one or two players."How they thought they
would not get caught with all the cameras at a ground these days is beyond me. —
Bipin Dani Darren LehmannWas Darren Lehmann really unaware?Though Steve has
admitted that coach Darren Lehmann was not aware of this incident, people find
this
customized
stress ball Supplier hard to buy.
This incident raises a lot of questions —
firstly about Steve’s leadership and how he let himself, his team and the whole
country down. Smith had conveniently hid behind the term "brain fade moment†and
later rubbished the claims in his book.As cricket commentator and former player
Mark Nicholas rightly pointed out before the start of the match on Day 4, "It is
now a great test of character for Australian players.S. To make matters worse,
the player attempted to hide the evidence when he realised umpires were
suspicious. In fact, they cheated the last time during the great betting scandal
of the ‘90s when they refused to take action against Shane Warne and Mark Waugh
who admitted that they took money from bookies to share information on weather,
pitch, teams etc. It rarely happens in the IPL, as there are only 85 minutes to
complete and it’s very fast moving, so there is no time.R. By accepting that you
have committed a mistake, you need to face the consequences, and it’s time that
the ICC should severely reprimand the players who are involved.
But the damage
had already been done. It’s common knowledge now that cricket these days favours
the batsmen more than the bowlers. They have to pay the price for damaging the
integrity of the game. Captain Steven Smith’s father Peter refused to comment at
this stage. #SandpaperGate,†said former cricketer Kevin Pietersen, to which
cricketer Dale Steyn added, "Bud you know nothing in professional sport is done
without the consent of your captain and coach. Murthy too feels that no
important decision is taken without consulting the coach. The stigma of being
involved in one of the biggest cricket controversies will stay with Smith
forever. There are seldom any chances of coach not being aware of something
that’s being pulled by the team,†says R. "All we can say at this time in that
Cameron is regretful of his actions.â€Coach R. think that they would get away
doing this from more than a dozen high definition cameras strategically
positioned to capture the action is the question on everyone’s mind. The captain
and vice-captain have stood down for the rest of the Newlands Test. And it is
not good for a game referred to as a gentleman’s game.
We do mislead, misguide
kids — winning at any cost is a message that is wrong.A day after what seemed to
be a dark day for cricket, and after calls from numerous cricketers and fans for
Steve to be removed, Steve and David Warner have stepped down as captain and
vice captain for the remainder of the Test, but will still take to the field and
be part of the game under wicketkeeper Tim Paine’s captaincy. What happens to
their contracts from the league starting very soon is a million dollar question.
Winning is important, but winning by fair means, is the message we must spread.
Earlier, Australian players got away on a couple of occasions, but now they are
at the receiving end.
Having been unforgiving in past scandals and scathing in
their criticism involving ball tampering in Asia, particularly by Pakistani
teams under Imran Khan, and taken the moral high ground during the betting
scandal, the Aussies must pay the price now. The Australians got away with the
least impact from the betting scandal while South African, Indian and Pakistani
cricket was thrown into turmoil with players like Salim Malik, Hansie Cronje and
Azharuddin suspended from the game and never played international cricket again.
I would never do something like that on the cricket field,†Kohli had said of
Smith’s illegal way of having taken help from the dressing room for DRS calls.
As he has pleaded guilty and is awaiting his punishment from the ICC, we cannot
comment any further,†Oven, speaking from Australia, after consulting his client
in South Africa, told this newspaper. "In most team meetings, a coach is always
present. He, his deputy David Warner and the opening batsman Bancroft who did
the actual ball tampering with yellow sticky tape laced with sandpaper roughness
in his track suit bottoms must step down and face the punishment for a grave
offence.
OpinionThere is no doubt there has been a mistake and the players are
responsible for this. He stuffed the tape down his track suit pants, instead
showing the umpires the piece of cloth in his pocket. While Australian sports
fans are worshipful of their sporting heroes, they are also quick to condemn
them for failure and any dalliance with drugs and cheating to gain an advantage.
Of course, there are legal considerations like contracts. It’s very sad, I would
like to think it is one of great tragedies of modern cricket.Cricket Australia
had taken the stand that since Warne and the younger Waugh had been fined
internally by the team management for their indiscretion with the Indian bookie
in Sri Lanka, they could not be punished twice for the same offence.
The
unsporting behaviour of the Aussies has drawn widespread criticism with their
own countrymen coming down the hardest on them.Bancroft used sticky yellow tape,
which had debris from the pitch, while working on the ball in an illegal attempt
to scuff it. — Bishen Singh BediBalwinder Sandhu, former Indian test
cricketerIncidents like these are definitely bad for the game.
I don’t want to
mention that word, it falls in that bracket. In the fallout, Smith handed over
the captaincy to wicket-keeper Tim Paine when the Aussies stepped into the field
on Sunday. Since Steve Smith confessed that the ‘leadership team’ (minus coach
Darren Lehman) knew it, and that he takes the responsibility for the act, he now
needs to step down as a captain not just for this Test, but for all matches."My
2cents worth
This will be Darren Lehmann’s greatest test as a coach, cos I
will struggle to believe that this was all Bancroft’s idea. But that doesn’t
mean we should permit tampering of the wear and tear of the ball from the
fielding team. I saw the incident, it was quite evident that sandpaper was
clearly being used..Caught tampering with the ball by all-seeing cameras, aussie
cheats must pay the price. The call for Smith to go is universal.
That is a
gesture, but not punishment. The Australians are in a real soup at the moment
and the very future of the top two is at stake.R Murthy, who has honed the
skills of many cricketers, including the Indian Women’s Cricket Team captain
Mithali Raj. Tough times ahead. Instead, why not make pitches that are
friendlier to bowlers instead?CM Gautam, first-class circketer from
KarnatakaWhatever happened with Steve Smith is unacceptable. Now that the
Aussies were caught red-handed, on camera, cheating — this time tampering with
the ball — Smith’s integrity as well as his intelligence has come under immense
scrutiny.†Though an urgent probe into the matter has been launched by Cricket
Australia, the team and the members have already lost fans’ respect and
admiration. It is JUST not done. But if CA suspends their players involved in
the tampering at Newlands, the IPL teams Hyderabad Sunrisers and Rajasthan
Royals will have to make do without their star batsmen..S.Cameron
BancroftBANCROFT REGRETS HIS ACTION Australia’s youngest player, in consultation
with the other players (leadership group) and captain Steven Smith, was caught
rubbing the surface of the ball with the sandpaper on the third day of the
ongoing Test versus South Africa in Cape Town. This also only happens in Test
cricket which is slower, which gives the bowler enough time to go back to his
run up.Smith and Warner are also key IPL players for their teams.
You cannot use
an object or an instrument to tamper with the ball. The reaction in Australia has
been severe with calls for Smith and Warner’s heads coming all the way from the
top, the Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull downwards. Virat Kohli had stopped
short of calling Australia skipper Steve Smith a cheat after the Bengaluru Test
last year. Yes, people use their saliva, or even toffee-laced spit to shine the
ball, but apart from saliva, anything else is not allowed.. There are so many
ways to win a match, but you just cannot pick this way (ball tampering) and
bring the game into disrepute,†says former Indian cricketer Arshad Ayub. It was
utterly brainless, or perhaps desperation to beat the system.HOW IT
UNFOLDEDDuring a shocking press conference after Day three of the third Test
against South Africa, Steve Smith stated to have hatched a plan to cheat, and
admitted to have brought "the game into disrepute†after bowler Cameron Bancroft
tried to tamper with the ball."When ball tampering was in early stages, and when
Pakistan players were accused of ball tampering, Australia and England made a
huge issue out of it. Cameras captured it all and the match referee later
formally charged him with ball tampering.
According to me, no limit could be
prescribed for strict action. Smith had conveniently hid behind the term "brain
fade moment†and later rubbished the claims in his book. As far as Steve Smith
owning up to the incident goes, I don’t think we as viewers and sport
enthusiasts can say anything about him stepping down as captain — that is up to
the Cricket Australia to decide. How on earth did Smith & Co. You probably
would have got away with it in the ‘70s and ‘80s,†said former England skipper
Michael Vaughan

Though sufficient water is available in Koyna dam
Due to the shortage, the rate of power of
China wheel unit
bearings Factory private power traders at exchange touched Rs 15-16 per
unit, which is not viable for the MSEDCL.Meanwhile, state power minister
Chandrashekhar Bawankule denied there was a power shortage, but officers said
that due to the shortage, load-shedding up to 3000 MW was started on Monday in
G1, G2 and G3 areas across the state in which power theft and arrears of dues
are more than 58 per cent, said a senior officer.
Though sufficient water is
available in Koyna dam, due to the limit on the use of water for power
generation, MSEDCL is getting 13-1,400MW power for few hours during the peak
demand. The demand for power from the agricultural sector has also increased, as
there is a need to supply water to the crops. The state power company is
generating up to 5,000MW instead of 6,500MW on an average. Due to the shortage,
the rate of power of private power traders at exchange touched Rs 15-16 per
unit, which is not viable for the MSEDCL. Demand for agriculture touched
6,00-0-6,500MW as the Devendra Fadnavis-led government has given a new
conne-ction for AG pumps to more than 2,50,000 farmers across the state. Water
has to be preserved for drinking purposes in January, April and May next
year.Because of the October heat, the demand of power shot up to more than
20,-000MW across the state with more people using air conditioners and coolers
in urban areas. So, MSEDCL is purchasing power from private companies, said a
senior officer.
Now more than 42 lakh pumps are consuming power, said a senior
officer of the energy department. The state power company is generating up to
5,000MW instead of 6,500MW on an average. Mumbai: Demand for power has shot up
to more than 20,000MW due to a shortage of coal. As a result, Maharashtra State
Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) has been compelled to start more
than 3000 MW load-shedding across the state during the festive season of

I first thought we should try drinking tap water
Four months after the pilot phase was launched in Navjeevan Vihar in Malviya

and still rely on water filters. My husband is in the business of water supply
and he checked the quality. After two years of hard work, our government is
going to give the same guarantee in 11 zones.†Another resident, Ms Sehgal, said
her family uses tap water for washing vegetables and for other non-drinking
purposes only.
We are always suspicious about drinking from it,†she said.
Similarly, Nupur Verma, a student, said, "We can’t trust the claims that the
water from the taps is cleanâ€. (Representational image) New Delhi: In March this
year, the Delhi government had inaugurated a pilot project of providing 24x7
quality drinking water supply in a locality in South Delhi, under which it had
said that people could drink water directly from taps — just like in Western
countries. The project was launched with a view that the 24x7 supply will
improve water pressure and enable the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) to bypass the
overhead tanks and booster pumps.Residents claim water supplied not 100 per cent

would need to spread more awareness and clear misconceptions among the people
about the project. Four months after the pilot phase

Nagar, residents say they haven’t used tap water for drinking purposes even once
and still rely on water filters.
I first thought we should try drinking tap
water but it didn’t appear to be very clean.Deputy chief minister Manish
Sisodia, while talking about the project in February said, "In Europe and
America, the government guarantees good quality water directly from taps. It was
not 100 per cent clean,†said Ms Akash Katyal, a retired school principal and a
resident of Navjeevan Vihar. It will also help it in saving water from
overflowing as consumers will have the facility to use direct water supply from
taps by closing the inlet of overhead tanks. Soon it will be done in other zones
also. While many residents this newspaper spoke to say that it is out of habit
that they use the filter or RO water, some also said that the water is not "that
clean†as the government claims it to be.Residents said that even though there
is a 24-hour supply, the pressure is not always good and they have not done away
with their motors and booster pumps yet. "We can’t drink from the tap because we
are not used to it
